Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
