Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles in the upcoming Hunger Games movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

News has broken that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.

The Plot and New Cast

The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several notable actors in key parts:

  • Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

  1. Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
